haha. actually, there were a lot of very religious men who were at the forefront of scientific discoveries. it wasn't religion that held people back, it was corruption.

And where was the center of curoption? The Vatikan. The Pope, who was supposed to be the holiest man alive.
haha, that's a tradition that has developed, but is no one condoned or accepted in the Bible. So yes, that is part of the corruption. Also, the church stopped reading the Bible and started making their own rules and traditions, which also led to corruption. When a state condones any religion as an official religion, and handles it's leadership positions for political reasons, corruption will follow, because people will accept the religion without believing it or knowing it's intent.
I agree with that.
You have a good point. But, what I ment was, the church burning the scientists for a millenia. So you see why I support the polytheistic religion. I know it's a religion also, but they have a god for science, a god for war etc, etc.
I a, trying to learn more about Norse, seing as how I alredy know most of Greek, and a bit of Egyptian.
Parts of the church of the middle ages became very corrupted, and surpressed many areas of thought. but this was due to men, not the teachings of Christianity. This is part of the reasoning behind the Reformation era. Only elements of the church was involved in "persecuting" scientists, not the religion as a whole.
But many men of the Judeo-Christian religion led the way in scientific research and discovery. some of the names may surprise you, since modern education sometimes "forgets" the faith of these men. Some weren't Christians, but believed in a creator God as described by Genesis. Others were deeply committed Christians. Here is a brief list of some historic scientists between the 1500s and the 1800s who were scientists and also believed in God and creation :
Francis Bacon
Galileo Galilei
Johann Kepler
Blaise Pascal
Robert Boyle
John Ray
Sir Isaac Newton
Cotton Mather
John Woodward
Jedidiah Morse
Samuel Morse
Michael Faraday
James Joule
Louis Pasteur
George Washington Carver

I was born and raised in the USA and around people and family members that believe in 1 god and the bible. I on the other hand believe and follow the religion of the ancient Egyptians.
LSM, I have a question and it is I went to church this past sunday with my mother and I listened the whole time to the preacher. My question is in the bible there is only 1 god but if you listen they talk about jesus and always end a prayer with in his name jesus, amen. So is jesus a god to and if so would that make it 2 gods and not just 1.
Wow. haha, that's something that I don't know if I could fully explain in a single post. Whole books have been written on that aspect of Christian theology. But I'll try my best.
The Christian belief in a Father and Son is a problem for a lot of people, particularly those of the Jewish faith. And in fact, at a baptism people are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So it would seem like there are three gods. But Christians don't believe in three separate gods, we believe in what we call One Triun God (or the Trinity). Basically, we believe that God is a Spirit and exists in three persons, but they are all co-equal and eternal, and are One God. Not three gods, or one god who has three roles. God is three persons; each person is fully God, and there is one God. Confusing, and almost contradictory I know, but it is supported by scripture, and it is possible because God is Spirit and not human or created flesh.
It's a difficult thing to understand, because we have no similar existence here on earth to compare it to. Sometimes people have used different analogies to illustrate it, such as an egg has three parts (yolk, white, and shell) but is one egg, or water can exist in three forms (gas, liquid, and solid) but it is always H20. But these all fall short in fully explaining the Trinity. We don't really have a reference point for such an existence on earth. But the Bible supports this idea in several places, the most explicit is in John 10:30 where Jesus says "I and the Father are One".
John 1:1-2 says "In the beginning was the Word (or, Jesus) and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." Jesus was both with God and He was God at the same time.
Also, in Genesis 1 verse 26 God said "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness", then in verse 27 "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female, He created them." The first verse makes it sound like there is more than one God, yet the next verse is singular. We take this to mean that there are three persons of God who are equally God and yet are One God.
I hope that helped. I kinda feel underqualified to explain it, there are men who would do a much better job. but that's what I've found from my research and what I believe is true. B)
Thanks and I am still having trouble wrapping my head around it but I guess people of your faith would say the samething about my religion. I believe you will make a great preacher and I am glad that I can ask you these questions without getting screamed at like Prince did when I tried asking questions about his religion. So thanks again LSM and good luck in your studies. B)
you're welcome. and if it helps, there are concepts in Christianity that I'm still trying to wrap my head around too. I don't know if I'll ever have the final answer on everything, because God is so infinitely greater than me there are a lot of things about him I won't understand. But I've asked questions about Christianity myself, and when others ask questions of me I really enjoy trying to answer them (instead of "screaming") B)
That is why I asked you and not anybody else.

Yes, well I was thinking about either Norse, or Greek, and decided that I like Norse better.
I fully support your polytheistic religion.
Thanks and I respect your choice in religion too and that is the same with you LSM.
And I too. Also, I'm hoping to learn to runecast, and get my own set.

thanks B)
He, I found instructions on how to make a runeset. It sais I have to prick myself. Yeah, right, I'm just gonna spit on them.
haha, think that'll do the job?
It sais any bodily fluid, wheter blood, spit, or the other ones. It just sais that blood is best, but others work well.
I just glad that you did not pick 1 of the other fuilds. B)
As am I. I don't think it a good idea walking around town with wooden planks that smell like, well....
