I think that Jedi strive for an excellence that they will never achieve. Luke's ideal and vision of the new Order is perhaps the best. He realized what the others did not. You cannot survive without love, anger, passion, hate. You need these emotions to live, and to suppress them you end up hurting yourself. Nobody is exempt from these emotions, they're basic, and eradicating them would (in my mind) essentially eradicate yourself. I think in my mind Jolee, and Revan are the perfect Jedi. They walked the line between light and dark, and both came out the better for it. Apart from my outlook on it, I would say Yoda is the only one who truly was the 'perfect' Jedi, but because he had 900+ years to know himself and achieve inner peace.

I disagree, I think Luke was always sided with the Rebels, but the killing of his family simply furthered, and pushed him to that extent of actually joining. I don't really think Luke ever planned on joining the Empire.

I think balance in a Jedi's mind is much like peace in Societies mind today. I think it's more of an ideal, Jedi know that the balance will never stay for long, but peace generally coexists with balance. But in a way the Sith seek to over throw the balance by assuming power and wiping out the light side. The Jedi realize that without the dark there can be no light, but if the dark becomes too prevalent then the balance shifts too far. Darkness is the absence of light, and so if there is no Jedi then the balance is skewed. Where as there will always be darkness when there is light. So in a way, without the two Sith, the balance is in check. I say this because with the light, you have gray, and darkness. Which keeps the Balance. Idk I feel like I just rambled.
